Investigation and Analysis on the Awareness of Syphilis and HIV/AIDS Prevention Knowl-edge among STD Clinic Patients

Abstract：Objective:To study the awareness of syphilis and HIV /AIDS prevention knowl-edge among STD patients and provide evidence for the further development of targeted campaign and intervention policies .Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 202 STD pa-tients from October 2014 to July 2015 in our hospital using a standard syphilis and HIV /AIDS prevention awareness questionnaire and the influencing factors of awareness were analyzed .Re-sults:Patients aged from 20 to 30 accounted for 56.9%in the sample .The most common occupa-tions were migrant workers , individual operators, clerks, and students, and they accounted for 19.80%, 19.80%, 13.86%and 7.92%respectively .Men who have sex with men accounted for 19.31%.The overall awareness rates of prevention knowledge were 67.33% for syphilis and 81.19%for HIV/AIDS.The awareness rate of HIV /AIDS was higher than that of syphilis (χ2 =10.152 , P<0.005 ) .The awareness rate of AIDS/HIV and syphilis for people with bachelor de-gree or above was higher than those with high school or below .MSM have higher awareness rate than heterosexuals .Television was the main way to obtain knowledge of AIDS prevention , account-ing for 57.43%.Conclusions: The awareness rate of HIV /AIDS was significantly higher than that of syphilis .Education background and sexual orientation were the main factors influencing the syphilis and AIDS awareness knowledge .Health education and health promotion programs should be developed to enhance the awareness of STD prevention among the general population , especial-ly among high risk populations .
