Effect of anemia on prognosis of patients with synchronous colorectal liver metastases

Abstract：Objective To observe the effect of anemia and its degree on prognosis of patients with synchronous colorectal liv?er metastases. Methods From January 2012 to June 2018, 62 patients with synchronous colorectal liver metastases were analyzed. Survival analysis was performed by using Kaplan?Meier method. Univariate analysis of prognosis was made by Log?rank method. Multi?variable analysis of prognosis was used by Cox proportional hazad regression model.Results 50% cases(31／62) with anemia were ob?served. Anemia of grade 1 was observed in 21 cases, grade 2 in 8 cases and grade 3 in 2 cases. The incidence of anemia was higher in women than in men(P＝0. 02). Age, degree of differentiation, primary tumor location, CEA, course of disease and initial resectable were not associated with anemia(P＞0. 05). The median overall durvival(OS) patients with or without anemia were 15. 0 months and 26. 0 months(P＝0. 004). The median OS of initial unresectable and resectable were 15. 0 months and 26. 4 months(P＝0. 007). Age, degree of differentiation, primary tumor location, CEA, and initial resectable were not associated with prognosis(P＞0. 05). Multivari?able analysis revealed anemia(RR＝2. 890,95%CI:1. 542?5. 415, P＝0. 001) and initial unresectable ( RR＝2. 957, 95%CI:1. 502?5. 820, P＝0. 002) were independent risk factors of prognosis. In subgroup analysis, the median OS of anemia and who without anemia were 12. 3 months and 25. 5 months in initial resectable(P＝0. 003). The median OS of anemia and who without anemia were 22. 9 months and 28. 1 months in 31 cases of initial unresectable(P＝0. 032). Conclusion Anemia was independent risk factor of prognosis of synchronous colorectal liver metastases, whether it was initial resectable or not.
