Abstract:Malignant pericardial effusion is a common and serious manifestation in advanced cancer patients and is associated with very poor prognosis and high mortality, requiring prompt and effective salvage therapy. For a long time, local treatment is the main method for the treatment of malignant pericardial effusion, but the effects are far from satisfaction. In recent years, with the progression on the mechanism study of malignant pericardial effusion, anti-angiogenic therapy may become a new effective strategy for the treatment of malignant pericardial effusion. Recombinant human endostatin (rh-endostatin,Endostar??) is a new biological drug for anti-angio-genic therapy independently developed in China. A number of scholars have explored the application of Endostar alone or in combina-tion with chemotherapeutic durgs for treatment of malignant pericardial effusion via intracardiac perfusion, finding its high efficiency and very low toxicity. Thus, it may significantly improve patients?? quality of life.
