Abstract:ObjectiveTo evaluate the expression of serum microRNA-331-3p (miR-331-3p) in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and analyze its relationship with the clinicopathological features of EOC.Methods From January 2015 to January 2018, a total of 70 cases newly diagnosed EOC and 70 apparently healthy females were recruited and detected by real-time quantitative PCR (QPCR). In addition, ovarian tissues from 70 cases of EOC patients and 30 cases of healthy control were measured by QPCR.The association of serum miR-331-3p expression with clinicopathological factors and prognosis were explored. Results The expression of serum miR-331-3p in the EOC group was 9.59±1.17, significantly higher than 4.87±1.98 in healthy control group (P<0.05). The expression of miR-331-3p in EOC tissues was 8.02±1.07, significantly higher than 3.53±1.51 in normal tissues (P<0.05). The expression of miR-331-3p was related to clinical stages (P<0.05), but not to age, histological classification, lymph node metastasis, histological grading and CA125 (P>0.05). Receiver operating characteristic curve revealed that the area under the curve of serum miR-331-3p expression for diagnosis of EOC was 0.868 (95%CI:0.789-0.948). The median overall survival of patients with high-expression of serum miR-331-3p was 15.5 months, shorter than 27.1 months of patients with low-expression of serum miR-331-3p (P<0.05). Conclusion MiR-331-3p may be used as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for EOC patients, and may be used as a therapeutic target for the treatment of EOC.
