Abstract:Objective To improve the understanding of pulmonary artery sarcoma (PAS) by clinicians. Methods The clinical data of 12 cases of PAS diagnosed by histopathology in Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University from April 2008 to April2017 were analyzed retrospectively. Results The ratio of male and female in this group was 1.4:1. Shortness of breath (41.7%), cough (25.0%) and hemoptysis or bloody sputum (25.0%) were the most common symptoms. Most of the patients were misdiagnosed before diagnosis and were mainly misdiagnosed as pulmonary thromboembolism. All 12 patients were confirmed pathologically as PAS,9 cases of which underwent further histopathological typing, including 7 cases of intimal sarcoma, 1 case of synovial sarcoma and 1 case of epithelioid sarcoma. Among 12 patients, 11 underwent surgery or postoperative chemoradiotherapy, and 10 patients were followed-up successfully. The median survival time was 18 months. Conclusion PAS is very rare, and its clinical manifestations are not typical, and it is easy to be misdiagnosed. Clinicians need to improve their understanding of the disease in order to early diagnose, treat and delay the survival.
