Progression in MammaPrint for breast cancer prognosis
GUAN Wenyan
Abstract:Women with breast cancer are often treated with adjuvant systemic therapy consisting of chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, agents against human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2),or the combination of these drugs when appropriate.Treatment decisions are based on clinicopathological criteria. However, these criteria, without taking into account the individual biologic characteristics of the patients' tumor, are far from accuracy for prediction of prognosis.Assays on multi-gene signature have been developed to better predict clinical outcome and to determine whether the addition of adjuvant chemotherapy to endocrine therapy is worthwhile. The 70-gene signature test (MammaPrint) has been shown to improve the prediction of clinical outcome in women with breast cancer. The aim of this review is to elaborate the clinical utility and research progress on predicting breast cancer prognosis based on MammaPrint.
