Abstract:Objective To explore the characteristics of episodic memory impairment of breast cancer patients with chemother-apy-induced cognitive impairment. Methods Forty female patients with breast cancer undergoing 6-cycle adjuvant chemotherapy were enrolled in this study. The neuropsychological background was evaluated by mini-mental state examination ( MMSE) , verbal fluency test ( VFT) and digit span ( DS) before and after chemotherapy. Meanwhile, the source memory and item memory situation were meas-ured using source memory and memory neuropsychological test before and after chemotherapy. Results There was no significant differ-ence on MMSE, VFT and DS before and after chemotherapy (P>0?05). The scores of item memory were 0?69±0?06 and 0?66±0?08 without significant difference (P>0?05). The score of source memory was 0?51±0?08 after chemotherapy, lower than 0?70±0?06 be-fore chemotherapy with significant difference ( P<0?05) . Conclusion These results suggest that breast cancer patients undergoing ad-juvant chemotherapy show deficits in episodic memory, mainly on source memory, but little on item memory.
