Abstract:Under specific conditions, bacteria or fungi within the human commensal microbiota can become opportunistic pathogens, leading to infectious diseases.Opportunistic pathogens related to other parts of the body can also cause changes in the ocular surface microenvironment, resulting in infectious eye diseases, and in severe cases, endophthalmitis may even occur.Opportunistic pathogens often exhibit resistance to most conventional antibiotics, and are associated with poor prognosis. These infections may trigger severe secondary infections, impair visual function, and even lead to other irreversible consequences. This study reviews the early identification and treatment strategies for opportunistic pathogens in ocular infections, aiming to provide a basis for clinical empirical therapy.
