Predictive value of preoperative C reactive protein/albumin ratio for postoperative infection in patients with oral and maxillofacial cysts

Abstract：Objective To investigate the predictive value of C-reactive protein(CRP)/albumin(ALB)ratio(CRP/ALB)for postoperative infection in patients with oral and maxillofacial cysts.Methods From January 2023 to November 2024,20 patients with postoperative infection after surgery for oral and maxillofacial cysts were included in the infection group,and 78 patients without postoperative infection were included in the non-infection group.The clinical data of all patients were collected.The predictive value was evaluated by the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve,and the influencing factors were evaluated by multivariate Logistic stepwise regression analysis.Results The levels of CRP and CRP/ALB in the infection group were higher than those in the non-infection group,while the ALB level was lower than that in the non-infection group(P＜0.01).The area under the ROC curve(AUC,95％CI)of CRP,ALB,and CRP/ALB for predicting postoperative infection in patients with oral and maxillofacial cysts were 0.829(0.784,0.879),0.743(0.698,0.793),and 0.911(0.861,0.956),respectively.The duration of operation,intraoperative blood loss,and the proportion of patients with diabetes in the infection group were longer or higher than those in the non-infection group(P＜0.01).Multivariate Logistic analysis showed that diabetes(OR=2.261,95％CI:1.146,4.464),duration of operation(OR=2.396,95％CI:1.250,4.594),intraoperative blood loss(OR=2.465,95％CI:1.293,4.697),and CRP/ALB(OR=3.111,95％CI:1.951,4.960)were the influencing factors of postoperative infection in patients with oral and maxillofacial cysts(P＜0.05,P＜0.01).Conclusion Preoperative CRP/ALB ratio is an effective predictive indicator for postoperative infection in patients with oral and maxillofacial cysts.An increase in this ratio indicates an increased risk of postoperative infection.
