Abstract:Objective To investigate the causes of misdiagnosis and mistreatment of cystic adventitial disease(CAD)and preventive measures. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 3 patients with misdiagnosed CAD admitted from September 2020 to October 2023.Results One patient was misdiagnosed with popliteal artery atherosclerotic occlusion due to severe intermittent claudication upon relevant examinations, and two patients were misdiagnosed as lower extremity deep vein thrombosis and lymphangial cyst respectively due to the presence of lower limb edema after related examinations. All three patients were misdiagnosed at other hospitals. After admission, relevant medical technical examinations were conducted to confirm the diagnosis of CAD.The duration of misdiagnosis for the three patients was 3 d.After diagnosis,"vascular exploration+cyst resection"was performed. After the operation, the arterial and venous ultrasound showed that the vascular lumen was unobstructed, and no recurrence was reported. Conclusion CAD and blood flow obstruction caused by atherosclerotic occlusion or thrombosis have similarities in imaging, making it difficult to distinguish. Therefore, clinicians should make a comprehensive judgment based on the patient's condition and examination results. If necessary, resection and biopsy should be performed to confirm the diagnosis and reduce misdiagnosis and mistreatment.
