Clinical Value of the New Anti-Tuberculosis Drug Bedaquiline in the Treatment of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis
Abstract:Tuberculosis is a chronic infectious disease caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which has a wide range of transmission and high mortality rate. According to statistics, nearly 2 million people die from tuberculosis worldwide each year. Anti-tuberculosis drugs are the main means of treating tuberculosis; however, with the widespread use of anti-tuberculosis drugs, the incidence of drug-resistant tuberculosis has begun to rise year by year. If Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the patient's body develops resistance to any anti-tuberculosis drug, it can be defined as drug-resistant tuberculosis. Among them, multidrug-resistant tuberculosis and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis have great clinical harm, and conventional first-line anti-tuberculosis drugs have limited efficacy. Surgery and interventional treatment also cause too much damage to patients, affecting their prognosis. Therefore, it is urgent to find new drugs that can effectively treat drug-resistant tuberculosis. The new anti-tuberculosis drug bedaquiline was first approved in the United States in 2012. It has received widespread attention due to its novel anti-tuberculosis mechanism and good therapeutic effect on drug-resistant tuberculosis. "Clinical Tuberculosis (6th Edition)" has made outstanding contributions to the diagnosis, intervention, and treatment of tuberculosis by doctors, and has comprehensively and systematically explained bedaquiline. This article aims to explore the clinical value of the new anti-tuberculosis drug bedaquiline in the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis based on the content of this book.
