Abstract:Acute kidney injury(AKI)is a common acute and critical condition in clinical practice.Due to the fact that the elderly population inherently has conditions such as decreased renal reserve function and complex underlying diseases, the incidence of AKI in the elderly population is significantly higher than that in the general population and shows a gradually increasing trend.Early and accurate diagnosis is a key link in the clinical prevention and treatment of AKI in the elderly. The existing conventional blood indicators, such as serum creatinine, cystatin C,and blood urea, have limited diagnostic value for early AKI,which leads to patients being unable to receive accurate diagnosis in the early stage, delaying the treatment opportunity, and thus aggravating kidney damage, causing renal failure and even death. Therefore,it is urgently necessary to search for novel biomarkers in order to be able to identify and diagnose AKI in the elderly at an early stage and improve the prognosis of elderly AKI patients. However, the search for novel biomarkers of AKI in the elderly remains a difficult and hot topic in clinical medicine. This article reviews the research progress of diagnostic indicators for AKI in the elderly from the perspectives of conventional blood indicators and novel biomarkers.
