Effect of Miniature Ilizarov external fixation technique in the treatment of simple syndactyly in children

Abstract：Objective To analyze the effect of the Miniature Ilizarov external fixation technique in the treatment of simple syndactyly in children.Methods Thirty children with simple syndactyly admitted to the Department of Pediatric Orthopedics from July 2018 to July 2023 were selected and divided into group A and group B by random number table method.Fifteen patients in group A were treated with syndactyly separation and webbing reconstruction,and 15 patients in group B were treated with Miniature Ilizarov external fixation technique+syndactyly separation.The excellent and good rates of operation in the two groups were evaluated by referring to the total active range of motion(ROM)of the fingers after the operation.At 12 months after the operation,the Vancouver Scar Scale(VSS)was used to evaluate the scar condition of the children,and the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)pain score was used to evaluate the pain sensation,appearance and function of the children.In addition,the occurrence of postoperative complications was recorded.Results The excellent and good rate of operation in group B was higher than that in group A(P<0.05).At 12 months after the operation,the color,thickness,vascular distribution,softness score and total VSS score of children in group B were lower than those in group A(P<0.05,P<0.01).At 12 months after the operation,there was no significant difference in the VAS pain score after the operation between the two groups(P>0.05).The appearance and function scores of group B were significantly lower than those of group A(P<0.05).The total incidence of postoperative complications in group B was lower than that in group A(P<0.05).Conclusion The Miniature Ilizarov external fixation technique has a definite therapeutic effect on simple syndactyly in children,with favorable postoperative outcomes,including minimal scar hyperplasia,satisfactory cosmetic appearance,normal digital function,avoidance of skin grafting,and a low incidence of complications.
