Effect of Xuebijing combined with Ulinastatin on multi-organ protection in elderly patients with sepsis

Abstract：Objective To explore the effect of Xuebijing combined with Ulinastatin on multi-organ protection in elderly patients with sepsis.Methods Forty elderly patients with sepsis from January to December 2022 were selected and randomly divided into two groups.On the basis of conventional treatment,the control group was given Xuebijing,and the research group was given Xuebijing combined with Ulinastatin.The severity scores of the disease before treatment and at 12,24,and 48 h after treatment were compared between the two groups.The efficacy evaluation indicators,serum inflammatory factors,high mobility group box 1 protein(HMGB1),and indicators of heart,liver,and kidney functions before and after treatment were also compared.The 28-day mortality rate,length of ICU stay,duration of mechanical ventilation,and incidence of new organ dysfunction were recorded.Results Compared with the control group,the scores of systemic infection-related organ dysfunction and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation Ⅱ in the research group were lower at 24 and 48 h after treatment.the duration of mechanical ventilation and length of ICU stay were shorter,and the incidence of new organ dysfunction and 28-day mortality rate were significantly reduced(P＜0.05).Compared with the control group,After treatment in the research group,the levels of peripheral vascular resistance index,pulmonary capillary permeability index,extravascular lung water index,intrathoracic blood volume index,C-reactive protein,procalcitonin,interleukin-6,HMGB1,left ventricular end-diastolic volume,right ventricular inner diameter,blood urea,blood creatinine,aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase were all lower,while the levels of cardiac index,anteroposterior diameter of the left atrium and left ventricular ejection fraction were higher(P＜0.05).No adverse reactions were observed in either group during the treatment period.Conclusion In the treatment of elderly patients with sepsis,Xuebijing in combination with Ulinastatin can protect cardiac,hepatic,and renal functions of elderly patients to a certain extent,further alleviate the inflammatory response,significantly improve the condition of elderly patients,and achieve better therapeutic effects.
