Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between the severity of popliteal vein entrapment and the clinical-etiology-anatomy-pathophysiology(CEAP)classification system of chronic venous diseases of the lower extremities. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the venography data of patients with varicose veins of the lower extremities admitted from January 2015 to September 2023.It was found that there were 94 patients(108 limbs)with popliteal vein entrapment.CEAP classification was performed on all lower extremities, and Gamma correlation analysis was used to study the relationship between the severity of popliteal vein entrapment and the CEAP classification of the lower extremities. Results Age,gender, occupation and entrapment classification were not correlated with the CEAP classification of lower extremities(P>0.05).Ordered multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the severity of popliteal vein entrapment was an influencing factor for the CEAP classification of lower extremities(P<0.05).The severity of popliteal vein entrapment was strongly correlated with the CEAP classification of the lower extremities(Gamma value of-0.731).Conclusion The severity of popliteal vein entrapment is negatively correlated with the CEAP classification of lower extremities. The more severe the popliteal vein entrapment, the lower the CEAP grade of the lower extremities;however, there may be stages. The severity of popliteal vein entrapment may affect the prognosis of superficial varicose vein surgery. The timing of popliteal vein release surgery should be considered on an individual basis.
