Research progress on the combined treatment of traditional Chinese and Western medicine for pain in patients with endometriosis

Abstract：Endometriosis(EM)is a common disease among women of childbearing age.Secondary dysmenorrhea,chronic pelvic pain,dyspareunia,anal distension pain,and defecation pain are its core clinical symptoms,which not only harm women's mental health but also may lead to complications.The treatment of EM pain with Western medicine alone is slow to take effect and has many adverse reactions.The combined traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment for EM-related pain has a remarkable effect and obvious advantages.Based on the relevant literature on combined traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment for pain in EM patients in recent years,this article describes the etiology and pathogenesis of EM pain in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and the pathological mechanism in Western medicine underlying EM-related pain.It focuses on summarizing and introducing the clinical research progress of the TCM compound prescriptions,Chinese patent medicines combined with Western medicines,acupuncture/the combination of acupuncture and medicine combined with Western medicines,and the staged treatment of EM pain with the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicines,providing insights for future related research.
