Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of Guilingji as an adjuvant therapy on male patients with stable stage of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)of kidney essence deficiency type. Methods Thirty male patients with stable COPD of kidney essence deficiency type who were admitted from September 2018 to December 2018 were selected and divided into the observation group(n=15)and the control group(n=15)by the random number table method. Both groups received conventional Western medicine treatment and traditional Chinese pulmonary rehabilitation exercises. The observation group was supplemented with Guilingji capsules(0.6 g once daily),while the control group was supplemented with a placebo of the same specification. The treatment course for both groups was 3 months. The fatigue Scale-14(FS-14)scores,six-minute walk distance(6MWD),pulmonary function indicators,Modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale(mMRC)scores, and COPD assessment test(CAT)scores before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. The treatment compliance and the incidence of adverse drug reactions of the two groups were observed. Results At 3 months after treatment, the physical fatigue scores and FS-14 scores of the two groups improved significantly, which were better in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05,P<0.01).At 3 months after treatment, the 6MWD of patients in both groups was higher than that before treatment, and higher in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05,P<0.01).At 3 months after treatment, the CAT scores,mMRC scores, forced expiratory volume in one second, forced vital capacity, and forced expiratory volume in one second/forced vital capacity of the patients in both groups showed an improving trend;however, there were no significant differences before and after treatment(P>0.05),nor significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).Both groups of patients were able to participate in pulmonary rehabilitation exercises on schedule, with no patient dropout or adverse drug reactions. Conclusion Guilingji as an adjuvant therapy for male patients with stable COPD of kidney essence deficiency type has a definite effect, which can alleviate the physical fatigue symptoms of patients, enhance activity endurance, improve the quality of life, and has good safety.
