Application effect and safety of rigid bronchoscope combined with flexible endoscope in bronchial foreign body removal

Abstract：Objective To explore the application effect and safety of rigid bronchoscope combined with flexible endoscope in bronchial foreign body removal.Methods A total of 141 children diagnosed with airway obstruction and undergoing airway foreign body removal from July 2018 to January 2024 were selected and divided into the rigid endoscope group(n=41),the flexible endoscope group(n=68),and the combination group(n=32)according to different surgical methods.Rigid bronchoscope was used in the rigid endoscope group to remove the foreign body,flexible endoscope was used in the flexible endoscope group to remove the foreign body,and a combination of flexible endoscope and rigid endoscope were used in the combination group to remove the foreign body.The perioperative indicators,one-time surgical success rate,postoperative infection conditions,and the occurrence of postoperative complications of the three groups were compared.Results There was no significant difference in the duration of operation,postoperative recovery time and length of hospital stay among the three groups(P>0.05).The one-time surgical success rate of children in the combination group[90.62%(29/32)]was higher than that in the rigid endoscope group[68.29%(28/41)]and the flexible endoscope group[67.65%(46/68)](P<0.05).The incidence of postoperative infection in the flexible endoscope group[11.76%(8/68)and 6.25%(2/32)]was lower than that in the rigid endoscope group[34.15%(14/41)](P<0.05).The incidence of cough in children was[6.25%(2/32)]in the combination group,which was lower than that in the rigid endoscope group[26.83%(11/41)]and the flexible endoscope group[10.29%(7/68)],and the incidence of wheezing in combination group and flexible endoscope group was[9.38%(3/32)and 8.82%(6/68)respectively],which was lower than that in the rigid endoscope group[31.71%(13/41)](P<0.05).Conclusion The application of rigid bronchoscope combined with flexible bronchoscope in the bronchial foreign body removal in children has a remarkable effect,which can improve one-time surgical success rate for children and reduce the incidence of postoperative infection and complications.
