Abstract:Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is the most common microvascular lesion of diabetes. It is a fundus disease with specific lesions, and its main symptoms are vision loss and even blindness in severe cases. It is a relatively serious complication of diabetes. The occurrence and development of DR are closely related to abnormal lipid levels. The use of lipid-regulating drugs can protect or enhance the blood-retinal barrier function, alleviate the damage of retinal microvascular endothelial cells, lower the inflammatory response of the retina, and help control the progression of DR.Statins mainly function to lower cholesterol levels, and the adjunctive use of Statins can slow down the progression of DR.This article reviews the current situation and mechanism of Statins in the treatment of DR,with a focus on introducing the theoretical basis and potential role of Statins in the treatment of DR.
