Abstract:Objective To observe the effect and safety of enema with the Wentong Zhuyu formula combined with acupuncture in the treatment of patients with acute attack of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease(CPID)and qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome. Methods A total of 188 patients with of acute attack of CPID with qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome admitted from January 2020 to March 2024 were selected and evenly divided into the conventional group and the combined traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)group by the envelope method, with 94 patients in each group. The conventional group was given conventional Western medical treatment, while the combined TCM group was treated with the Wentong Zhuyu formula and acupuncture on the basis of the conventional group. The clinical effect of the patients, the changes in the scores of TCM syndrome(distending or stabbing pain in the lower abdomen, distending pain in the lumbosacral region, heavy menstrual flow or prolonged menstrual period, distending pain in the chest, hypochondrium,or breasts, and increased leukorrhea)before and after treatment, the changes in the levels of interleukin-6(IL-6)and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),the disappearance time of abdominal pain, the time for vaginal discharge to return to normal, and the time for body temperature to return to normal, and length of hospital stay were compared between the two groups. The adverse reactions of the two groups were recorded, and the disease recurrence rate at 6 months and 1 year after treatment was compared. Results The total effective rate of treatment in the combined TCM group[96.81%(91/94)]was higher than that in the conventional group[88.30%(83/94)](P<0.05).After treatment, the scores of various TCM syndromes,IL-6 and TNF-α in both groups decreased compared with those before treatment, and the scores of the combined TCM group were lower than those of the conventional group(P<0.05).The disappearance or recovery time of clinical symptoms and the length of hospital stay in the combined TCM group were shorter than those in the conventional group(P<0.01).There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).The recurrence rates of the combined TCM group at 6-monthand 1-year follow-up were both lower than those of the conventional group(P<0.05).Conclusion Enema with the Wentong Zhuyu formula combined with acupuncture has a very good therapeutic effect on the acute attack of CPID with qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome, and is safe and reliable.
