Abstract:Objective To explore the effect and safety analysis of Xingnao Kaiqiao(refreshing the brain and open-ing the orifices)acupuncture therapy by academician Shi Xuemin as an adjunct to Western medicine in postpartum depression(PPD).Methods A total of 100 patients with PPD admitted from January 2021 to January 2024 were selected and divided into the control group(n=50)and the observation group(n=50)by the random number table method. The control group was treated with Western medicine, while the observation group was treated with Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture therapy by acade-mician Shi Xuemin on the basis of the control group. The therapeutic effects, adverse reactions,Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD),Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA),scores of the Short Form 36 Health Survey(SF-36),and levels of 5-hydroxy-tryptamine(5-HT),estradiol,endorphin,dopamine,progesterone,and luteinizing hormone(LH)were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of the observation group[96.00%(48/50)]was higher than that of the control group[78.00%(39/50)](P<0.05).At 4 and 8 weeks after treatment, the HAMD score and HAMA score of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, while the scores of each dimension of the SF-36 scale were higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).At 4 and 8 weeks after treatment in the observation group,LH,progesterone and enkephalin were lower than those in the control group, while estradiol,5-HT and dopamine were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the total incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Xingnao Kaiqiao acupuncture therapy by academician Shi Xuemin as an adjunct to Western medicine is effec-tive in the treatment of patients with PPD,and there are no obvious adverse reactions.
