Research Progress of Psychological Intervention in Burning Mouth Syn-drome from the Perspective of Psychosomatic Medicine

Abstract:Burning mouth syndrome is mainly manifested as burning pain of oral mucosa(especially tongue),mostly in middle-aged and elderly women.Patients will also show obvious psychological problems,which is classified as a psychoso-matic disease.However,the psychological factors of its onset are still unclear,and the curative effect is far from satisfactory.Psychosomatic medicine mainly studies"psychosomatic diseases" caused by psychological mediation and mainly manifested as physical symptoms.Psychological intervention is a non-drug treatment for burning mouth syndrome and has potential applica-tion in the treatment of oral mucosal diseases overlapping with psychological factors.This study describes the psychological factors related to burning mouth syndrome,such as anxiety,depression,and self-efficacy,analyzes and summarizes the effec-tiveness and potential positive effects of cognitive behavioral therapy and other psychological interventions in burning mouth syndrome,and puts forward current problems and future research directions,in order to provide ideas for optimizing the com-prehensive treatment of burning mouth syndrome and the development of psychosomatic medicine in the field of oral diseases.
