Abstract:Objective To analyze the causes of misdiagnosis and preventive measures of hypercalcemia patients with neurological symptoms as initial manifestations. Methods The clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of 4 patients with hypercalcemia admitted from September 2018 to August 2024 were retrospectively analyzed, and the relevant literature was reviewed. Results Among the 4 hypercalcemia patients, the initial symptom was delayed response in 2 patients, limb weakness in 3 patients and limb pain in 1 patient. There was misdiagnosis as acute cerebrovascular disease in 1 patient,myo-genic disease in 1 patient, and cerebral infarction in 2 patients. All 4 patients underwent multiple examinations and were diag-nosed as hypercalcemia with varying degrees of elevated blood calcium. The misdiagnosis lasted 20 d-2 months.Further eluci-dation of the etiology showed 3 patients with parathyroid adenoma and 1 patient with hyperthyroidism. The prognosis was good following appropriate treatment after diagnosis. Conclusion Hypercalcemia has many causes and various clinical manifesta-tions,which is more likely to be misdiagnosed. When patients have changes in consciousness, systemic muscle weakness, and slow response, blood calcium should be measured in time to guard against the possibility of hypercalcemia.
