Research Progress in Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Treatment of Gouty Arthritis

Abstract：Gouty arthritis is a non-specific inflammatory response disease,and the pathological mechanism is an ab-normal disorder of purine metabolism and an abnormal excretion of uric acid,which in turn causes urate crystals to be deposi-ted in the joints and surrounding soft tissues.In the acute phase,the aim of treatment is to rapidly relieve symptoms,while in the non-acute phase,the aim is to reduce blood uric acid levels and prevent the recurrence of arthritis;however,the treatment is tricky,and the adverse effects are more obvious,and the disease is more prone to recurrence.In this study,we reviewed the literature in recent years to understand the latest research progress of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)treatment of gouty arthritis from the aspects of etiology and pathogenesis,oral administration of TCM,external application of TCM and com-prehensive treatment with TCM.It was found that TCM has remarkable therapeutic effect on gouty arthritis,with fewer side effects and a better developmental prospect.
