Abstract:Objective Bronchopulmonary dysplasia(BPD)is a serious neonatal respiratory disease with complex pathogenesis and a gradually increasing incidence in recent years. As a natural antioxidant, melatonin can not only inhibit the production of oxygen free radicals, reduce oxidative stress and cell oxidative damage, but also promote alveolar development, improve lung function and reduce lung tissue inflammation through various ways, which is expected to become a new treatment option for BPD.This article reviews the research progress of melatonin in BPD with respect to its pharmacology, safety and clinical application, and tries to comprehensively and objectively demonstrate the potential, research status and future applica-tion prospect of melatonin in this field.
