Abstract:Objective To investigate the pathogenesis and clinical features of systemic sclerosis (SSc), and to analyze the causes of misdiagnosis and preventive measures. Methods Clinical data of 10 cases of SSc misdiagnosed as digestive system diseases were retrospectively analyzed. Results All patients had different degrees of gastrointestinal symptoms, and were initially misdiagnosed. The duration of misdiagnosis was 2 weeks to 5 years. There was misdiagnosis of reflux esophagitis in 3 cases, chronic gastritis in 2 cases, duodenal ulcer in 2 cases, esophageal carcinoma in 1 case, chronic enteritis in 1 case, and drug-induced liver damage in 1 case. All patients were treated accordingly. The symptoms were slightly improved or the condition was recurrent or not improved. After further performing the relevant medical examinations and analyzing clinical symptoms, the diagnosis of SSc was confirmed, and they were given glucocorticoid and symptomatic support treatment. They were discharged home after the condition was improved. After two years of follow-up, 2 patients were lost to follow-up, 1 died of severe pulmonary infection, and 7 had stable condition. Conclusion Due to insidious onset, generally SSc is manifested initially as digestive symptoms. Insufficient understanding of the disease by clinicians and the neglect of systematic examination are the main causes of misdiagnosis.
