Abstract:Objective To investigate the causes of occult femoral neck fracture misdiagnosed as hip sprain in order to reduce the rate of misdiagnosis. Methods The clinical data of 3 patients with femoral neck fracture mis-diagnosed as hip sprain who were admitted to our hospital from December 2015 to August 2016 were analyzed retro-spectively. Results In this group, 2 patients presented to our department for hip pain caused by falls and 1 case presented for pain and swelling of the hip after climbing the mountain. Those 3 cases were all misdiagnosed as hip sprain, which was, however, confirmed as occult femoral neck fracture by posterior CT examination. Two cases were treated by closed manipulative reduction and internal fixation, and 1 received conservative treatment. After treat-ment, they all recovered and discharged. After 1 year of follow-up, all patients reported favorable prognosis. Con-clusion Given non-specific clinical manifestations of occult femoral neck fracture, timely CT examination is the key to reducing or avoiding misdiagnosis and mistreatment.
