Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical features and misdiagnosis causes of neuroendocrine pros-tate carcinoma ( NEPC) . Methods Clinical data of a case of NEPC were analyzed retrospectively and the related literature was reviewed. Results The patient complained of difficulty in urination for 4 months, and he was previ-ously misdiagnosed as benign prostatic hyperplasia, which was not improved after symptomatic treatment. After ad-mission, further related medical tests confirmed poorly-differentiated NEPC, for which he received laparoscopic radi-cal prostatectomy and endocrine therapy, One month after discharge, the patient suffered cancer relapses, which had metastasized to different organs. After 6 cycles of cisplatin-etoposide combined chemotherapy, the patient gave up chemotherapy for economic reasons and eventually died of systemic deterioration. Conclusion NEPC is difficult to diagnose preoperatively due to a low incidence and high degree of malignancy. Therefore, raising awareness of NEPC is the key to avoiding or reducing misdiagnosis.
