Misdiagnosis and Missed Diagnosis Analysis of 5 Children with Atypical Bronchial Asthma

Abstract:Objective To investigate the causes of misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis of atypical bronchial asthma in children. Methods Of 28 children with bronchial asthma, clinical data of 5 cases of misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis were analyzed retrospectively. Results The rate of misdiagnosis in this group was 17.86%. Five cases presented to our department due to wheezing aggravated and anurine,asthma with dyspnea,intermittent wheez-ing,and recurrent cough with asthma. They were misdiagnosed initially as having glomerulonephritis in one patient, bronchial tumor with perforation in two and pediatric pneumonia in 2. The duration of misdiagnosis was 1 weeks to 2 months. All 5 cases were diagnosed as having pediatric bronchial asthma by chest X-ray. Among them, there was glomerulonephritis in one child,and bronchial tumors and perforation in two. All 5 cases were treated with flutica-sone nasal spray and inhalation aerosol of salbutamol sulphate,and discharged from the hospital when the disease was relieved. They were followed up for 3 months to one year, and all of them had favorable prognosis. Conclusion
