Effects Observation of Radiotherapy Combined with Chemotherapy in Treatment of Elderly Patients with Limited-stage Small Cell Lung Cancer
Abstract:Objective To observe effects of radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy in treatment of elderly patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LSCLC). Methods A total of 65 LSCLC patients admitted during January 2008 and January 2013 were recruited according to the study criteria, and the patients were divided into study group (n=35) and control group ( n=30 ) according to therapeutic methods. Study group was treated with synchronous radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy, while control group was treated with chemotherapy alone. Short and long-time clinical efficacy and adverse reaction in two groups were observed and compared. Results The total effective rate was higher in study group (82. 9%) than 56. 7% in control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0. 05). Median survival time (MST) was 26 months, and the time was significantly longer than 20 months in control group;survival rates in 1st, 2nd and 3rd years were 74. 3%, 53. 7% and 34. 1% respectively, and the rates were significantly higher than 52. 3%, 32. 2% and 13. 4% respec-tively in control group (P<0. 05). There was no significant difference in incidence rate of adverse reaction during treatment between two groups (P>0. 05). Conclusion radiotherapy combined with chemotherapy has better short and long-time clini-cal efficacy in treatment of elderly patients with limited-stage small cell lung cancer, and the total incidence rate of adverse re-action is similar to that by chemotherapy alone.
