Abstract:Objective To investigate clinicopathological features, key points of diagnosis and treatment, misdiagnosed causes and prevention measures of skin metastasis of gastric cancer. Methods Clinical data of one skin metastasis of gastric cancer patient misdiagnosed as having skin fibrous histiocytoma was retrospectively analyzed, and related literature was reviewed. Results The patient was admitted for neck mass for 7 months, multiple subcutaneous masses in head, neck and torso skin for 5 months more than 1 year after radical gastrectomy. The patient visited other hospital for neck mass 7 months ago, and skin fi-brous histiocytoma was diagnosed after mass excision by pathological examination, but the patient was discharged without addi-tional treatment after surgery. The patient visited our hospital for multiple subcutaneous masses in head, neck and torso skin 5 months ago, and pathological consultation for exsecting neck sample from other hospitals and immunohistochemical examination were performed. Pathological diagnosis was metastatic poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma in inner dermis, in which part was signet ring cell carcinoma. Skin metastasis of gastric cancer was suspected after comprehensive analysis of medical history and pathological result. Chemotherapy was suggested, but the patient refused treatment for economic reasons, and then died six months after discharging follow-up. Conclusion Skin metastasis of gastric cancer is rare and easy to misdiagnosis, and there-fore it is helpful to strengthen understanding of clinical and histopathologic features for early diagnosis.
