Abstract:Objective To compare the efficacy and their safety of metacarpal plates and hollow nail fixation in pa-tients with posterior malleolus fracture .Methods 100 patients with posterior malleolus fracture , treated in Shanghai Fengxian District Central Hospital between January 2010 and December 2013, were divided into observation group (53 cases) and con-trol group (47 cases) according to the different surgical procedures .The observation group was given metacarpal plate fixation and the control group was given the cannulated screw fixation .The clinical parameter makers ( including blood loss , operative time, hospital stay, fracture healing time, full weight bearing time), efficacy of treatment after 24 weeks and their complica-tion rates were observed in each group .Results After treatment of 24 weeks, the excellent and satisfactory rate was 98.11%in observation group, significantly superior to that of 80.85% in control group and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).The blood loss and operative time were significantly more in observation group than those in control group , while the hospital stay and fracture healing time were significantly shorter in observation group than that in control group ( P<0.01 or P<0.05).The complication rates were 3.77%in observation group and 19.15%in control group, significantly lower and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion The efficacy of posterior malleolus fracture is more defi-nite than that of the hollow nails with a lower rate of complications , which is helpful in early ankle exercise and quick recovery of ankle joint function .
