Analysis of the Disease Constitutes of Inpatients in Geriatrics Department and Study of Health Management Mode of the Elderly Population

Abstract:Objective To study the hospitalization situation and the disease composition characteristics of inpatients in geriatrics department in order to provide scientific basis for studying the reasonable mode of health management in elderly population .Methods Medical records and relevant statistical data of inpatients in geriatrics department of the First Hospital of Shijiazhuang City between July 2013 and July 2015 were analyzed retrospectively .Results There were a total of 1957 pa-tients, including 1296 males and 661 females.Average age was 72 years old.Elderly patients were between the ages of 70 to 90, accounting for 64.38%.The top five systemic diseases of inpatients were:circulatory disease, neurological disease, re-spiratory disease, digestive disease and endocrine disease , accounting for 90.96%of the total number of inpatients .The aver-age hospital stay was 14 days.The average hospital days of two times , three times or more hospitalized patients were more than that of one-time hospitalized patients (P<0.01).The average medical cost was 30 014.84 RMB.Repeated hospitalized inpa-tient costs accounted for 77.10% of the synchronization total cost of geriatrics department .The average cost of two times , three times or more hospitalized patients was more than that of one-time hospitalized patients ( P<0.01 ) .Conclusion The elderly patients tend to be repeatedly hospitalized and the cost is high and so we must strengthen the construction of geriatrics , seek for a reasonable model of health management and provide quality health services for the elderly population .
