Clinical Analysis on Anxiety Neurosis with Hypertension Misdiagnosed as Pheochromoctyoma

Abstract:Objecti ve To reduce misdiagnosis and mistreatment rates of hypertension with anxiety neurosis by analy -zing the causes of hypertension with anxiety neurosis misdiagnosed as pheochromocytoma .Methods We analyzed the clinical data of 6 cases with hypertension with anxiety neurosis misdiagnosed as pheochromocytoma in the People 's Hospital of Hainan Provincial.Results In this study, the blood pressure of 6 cases still fluctuated drastically after drug treatment , within the range of 140-200/90-120 mmHg.All the cases complained of paroxysmal headache , palpitations, sweating, nausea and short-ness of breath .They were misdiagnosed as pheochromocytoma in the initial stage , and the average time of misdiagnosis was (21.8 ±11.2) days.Blood tests and imaging examination were taken after they were admitted to the hospital , and the test re-sults ruled out the possibility of pheochromocytoma .Tested by Zun Self-Rating Anxiety Scale , all cases came up to the diag-nostic criteria of anxiety neurosis .After treatment of anxiolytics , the above mentioned symptoms and blood pressure were well controlled.Drastic fluctuation of blood pressure and systolic pressure less than 150 mmHg were reported during the follow-up period of 3-5 months.Conclusion In order to avoid or reduce misdiagnosis and mistreatment , physicians need to pay atten-tion to the state of anxiety and other mental factors , and perform Zun Self-Rating Anxiety Scale timely in hypertension patients whose blood pressures fluctuate drastically and are poorly controlled , especially in middle-aged or menopausal women .
