Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical characteristics and the causes of misdiagnosis of caliceal diverticulum. Methods 3 cases of caliceal diverticulum treated in our department during September 2010 and December 2014 were ana-lyzed retrospectively and relevant literature was review. Results All were young patients, admitted to hospital for lumbago and the preoperative physical examination, and diagnosed with renal cyst according to imaging examination and misdiagnosed as having renal cyst before operation. 2 underwent laparoscopic unrolling of renal cyst and leakage of urine, 1 patient was di-agnosed by anterograde pyelography and received conservative treatment, one patient received caliceal diverticulum nephrecto-my and the ureteral catheter was inserted into the ureter and methylene blue was injected in the operation. The other patient received laparoscopic renal exploratory operation on the left under general anesthesia, and then underwent open surgery of cal-iceal diverticulum nephrectomy. All the patients were followed up with no recurrence. Conclusion Renal caliceal diverticu-lum is a rare disease, which can be easily misdiagnosed. Intravenous pyelography and enhanced CT delayed sweep can help to make the accurate and reliable diagnosis. The ureteral should be inserted at the beginning of the surgery and methylene blue be injected during the operation.
