Abstract:Clinical symptoms of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis are different, and signs are atypical and varied. With the development of diagnosis technology and clinical attention, the detection rate of this disease is increasing, but the rate of misdiagnosis is still high. 95 papers published in Chinese medical journals have been enrolled in the literature of the misdiagnosed diseases database of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis during 2004 and 2013. There were 674 cases of misdiag-nosis, of which there were 654 cases in 29 literature reviews involving the misdiagnosis rate. There were 284 misdiagnosed ca-ses, and the rate of misdiagnosis was 43. 43%. The misdiagnosis range covered 53 kinds of diseases, among which, the top 4 were misdiagnosed as cerebral infarction, subarachnoid hemorrhage, central nervous system infection and viral encephalitis. The main causes of misdiagnosis were lack of experience and knowledge about the disease, lack of specific symptoms and signs, and lack of specific examination. Of a total of 438 misdiagnosed cases, the relationship between misdiagnosis and out-come was described, and there were no adverse consequences in 382 cases (87. 21%) due to misdiagnosis and mis-treatment. This study suggests that clinicians should raise awareness of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis in patients with headache, vomi-ting, increased intracranial pressure and visual loss. MRI, MRV and other specific examinations should be performed in time to reduce the misdiagnosis rate.
