Abstract:Objective To discuss clinical, radiological and pathological features of chronic expanding intracerebral hematoma ( CEICH) , and analyze causes of misdiagnosis for making preventive measures. Methods The clinical data of three patients with CEICH recently treated in our hospital and misdiagnosed preoperatively was retrospectively analyzed. Re-sults In this paper, three cases were admitted for headache, nausea, vomiting, intermittent fever, slurred speech and weak-ness, memory decline or right limb weakness after surgery of traumatic brain injury. They were misdiagnosed as astrocytoma, brain abscess and brain metastasis of lung cancer, respectively. Furthermore, they underwent surgery treatment and were con-firmed by pathological examination. Good outcomes were obtained in all patients. Conclusion CEICH is clinically rare, so its misdiagnosis rate is high. In order to reduce the misdiagnosis of CEICH, we need to improve our understanding, actively carry out relevant examinations and focus on accumulations of clinical experience.
