Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between bronchial asthma and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and observe the effect of radiofrequency ( RF) therapy in the asthma symptom of old patients with GERD. Methods A total of 124 elderly patients with asthma and GERD were randomly divided into three groups:the drug group (42 patients, Omeprazole 20 mg, 3/d), RF group (34 patients) and control group (48 patients, no treatment). All patients were followed up for two years to observe the changes of pulmonary function and drug types and dosage. Results Asthma symptoms in RF group improved significantly. Sphincter resting pressure, asthma and reflux scores were all better than those in the drug group and the control group (P<0. 05), and in the 2-year follow-up, the improvements in RF group continued, but there were no significant differences among the three groups in the types and dosage of drug taken by the patients (P>0. 05). Conclusion Successful anti-reflux therapy in treatment of elderly patients with GERD and asthma can significantly improve lung function state.
