Abstract: Objective To explore the clinical characteristics and treatment of the synchronous multiple primary laryn-geal cancer and lung cancer. Methods The clinical data of a patient with synchronous laryngeal cancer and lung cancer was reviewed. Results The patient was admitted to our hospital due to hoarseness for 2 months. A cauliflower-like mass was found in the right vocal cord by strobolaryngoscopy. Chest X-ray showed a pulmonary nodule in the right lower lung and chest CT showed there was a mass with irregular edge and about 1. 5 cm in diameter in the right lower lung, which was considered as a malignant tumor. Initial diagnosis was synchronous multiple primary laryngeal carcinoma ( T1 N0 M0 ) and lung cancer ( T1 N0 M0 ) . Under general anesthesia, transoral CO2 laser assisted partial cordectomy of the right side and the thoracoscopic lobectomy of the right side were performed respectively. The postoperative pathological diagnosis was squamous cell carcinoma of right vocal cord and central type of moderately-poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma in right lower lung. The patient recovered well after operation and close follow-up was on going. Conclusion For laryngeal cancer patients, we should pay at-tention to finding whether there is other primary cancer. The treatment of synchronous multiple primary laryngeal cancer and lung cancer is the same as the treatment of the first primary cancer, and radical resection of the cancer is necessary.
