The Pocket Effusion Caused by Allergy to Implant:A Report of 3 Cases

Abstract:Objective To summarize the clinical manifestations and characteristics of the diagnosis and therapy on implant pocket effusion which caused by allergy. Methods Clinical data of 3 cases of pocket effusion which caused by allergy between July 2012 and April 2013 in our hospital was retrospectively analyzed. Results The 3 patients, one of them received the ICD implantation and the others received the normal pacemaker implantations, were found suffered from the pocket effusion between 2 to 14 days after operations. Through a comprehensive analysis of the history, examination and treatment outcome, the infectious factors were removed and the patients were diagnosed as allergic reaction. Pocket effusion disappeared after Promethazine treatment. Conclusion Some patients may suffer from pocket effusion for allergy to implant, and the anti-aller-gic drugs such as Promethazine can be a good method to treat that.
