Three Misdiagnosed Patients with Haff Disease:A Report and Literature Review

Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical features of Haff disease and to analyze the misdiagnosis causes in order to provide the preventive measures. Methods Clinical data of 3 patients with Haff disease was retrospectively analyzed,and related literature was also reviewed. Results Two patients visited doctors for fatigue and another patient for abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. The three patients were misdiagnosed as having upper respiratory tract infection,gastroenteritis and myo-carditis respectively in initial period,and Haff disease was confirmed after enquiring related history combined with results of clinical manifestations and laboratory examination. All the patients were cured after treatments of fluid replacement,dieresis and urine alkalization. Conclusion The main misdiagnosis causes of the Haff disease are lack of knowledge and negligence of history enquiry without related laboratory examinations.
