Abstract:To achieve the resource utilization of the waste residue from the extraction of Artemisia argyi essential oil,the residue and its phosphoric acid-modified derivative were used as precursors to prepare bio-char(WBC)and modified biochar(WAC)at different carbonization temperatures in this study. The ad-sorption performance of both kinds of samples towards three organic small molecules(methyl orange(MO),Rhodamine B(RhB),and tetracycline hydrochloride(TC))was systematically investigated, and corresponding processes were analyzed using three kinetic models. It was indicated that phosphoric acid ac-tivation significantly improved the porosity. The samples WAC exhibited more wrinkles and holes on the surface than the samples WBC,with the sample WAC800 having the largest specific surface area of 667 m2/g among all candidates.Correspondingly, the adsorption performance of samples WAC was superior to that of WBC,with the equilibrium adsorption capacities of sample WAC800 for MO,RhB,and TC being 40.1,19.1,and 38.7 mg/g,respectively.The corresponding adsorptions of three organic molecules fol-lowed a quasi-second-order kinetic model, revealing that the adsorption processes were chemical adsorp-tion,primarily driven by the surface complexation induced by hydrogen bonding and electrostatic π-π in-teraction between the adsorbents and target adsorbates.
