Abstract:In recent years, with the acceleration of industrialization and urbanization, the discharge of ni-trogen in wastewater has significantly increased, posing a severe threat to aquatic environments and eco-systems.Therefore,developing effective nitrogen recovery technologies is crucial for reducing environ-mental pollution and protecting ecological balance.Compared with the traditional nitrogen removal proces-ses,microbial nitrogen assimilation,as an emerging wastewater treatment technology, has garnered wide-spread attention due to its environmental friendliness and cost-effectiveness.This paper reviews nitrogen-containing wastewater treatment methods and their mechanisms, studies the assimilation of nitrogen in wastewater through nitrogen assimilation pathways, and analyzes the associated environmental and eco-nomic benefits.Additionally, the challenges faced by current technologies and future development direc-tions are discussed.Through case studies and discussions on practical applications, this review aims to propose a feasible and environmentally friendly new approach to nitrogen recovery in wastewater, offering references and insights for future research and practical applications.
