Abstract:Photo-thermal catalytic CO2 methanation is a promising strategy to mitigate the greenhouse effect and address the energy crisis. However,it still faces several challenges in achieving ideal conversion efficiency and high selectivity for target products. In this work,a method was proposed to in situ grow Ni nanoparticles on the surface of Al2O3 nanosheets for photo-thermal catalytic CO2 hydrogenation to CH4.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveals a strong interaction between the Ni nanoparticles and the Al2O3 support, allowing efficient electron transfer from Ni to the Al2O3 surface, which facilitates the adsorption and activation of reactants.Experimental results show that the Ni/Al2O3-3 catalyst exhibits the highest CO2 hydrogenation activity, with a CH4 yield of 32.4 mmol·g-1·h-1 and a selectivity of 93.3%,which is 3.4 times higher than that of the Ni-Al2O3 catalyst prepared by conventional impregnation. Moreover, mechanism studies manifest that the CO2 methanation reaction on Ni/Al2O3 catalysts follows the formate pathway, and light irradiation effectively promotes the activation and conversion of reactants and interme-diate,thereby enhancing catalytic activity.
