Abstract:Polycarbonate(PC),as one of the commonly used engineering plastics, exhibits excellent com-prehensive properties. Its honeycomb structures, known for their high impact strength and low mass den-sity,have garnered significant attention. To enhance the impact resistance of staggered PC circular honey-combs(PC-RSH),a novel multi-directionally embedded PC circular honeycomb(PC-MCH)was proposed. This design involves embedding"Y"-shaped beam units oriented in four directions around a micro-circular structure within the circular cell units.Based on out-of-plane quasi-static compression tests of PC-RSH ho-neycomb samples, the reliability of the model was verified by simulating and comparing the test results.Using finite element simulation analysis, the dynamic response of PC-RSH and PC-MCH under different relative densities and impact velocities was investigated, including deformation modes,stress-strain curves, and energy absorption capabilities. The results indicate that, under the condition of equal relative density, embedding the support structures inside the cells alters the impact deformation location of the structure and provides higher plateau stress.Furthermore, under different impact velocities, the energy absorption per unit mass of PC-MCH outperforms that of PC-RSH.The maximum improvements in plat-eau stress and specific energy absorption were 29.06%and 26.03%,respectively,demonstrating that the insertion of the support units enhances the energy absorption capacity of the structure. The obtained re-sults can provide theoretical references for the study of honeycomb structure impact dynamics and struc-tural design.
