Abstract:AlCrFeMo and AlCrFeMoSix high entropy alloys were prepared by non-consumable vacuum arc melting method. The effect of Si addition on the microstructure and properties of AlCrFeMo high entropy alloys were studied using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy,micro-hardness tester and elec-trochemical measurement system. The results showed that the phase composition of AlCrFeMo high en-tropy alloys changed from single BCC1 phase to dual-phases(BCC1 and BCC2)after Si addition and a small amount of intermetallic compounds(Cr5Si3 and Mo3Si)was also detected. This was because Si ele-ment not only promoted the formation of BCC phase, but also facilitated the presence of silicides due to the high negative mixing enthalpy between Si and metal elements.Meanwhile, the AlCrFeMoSix high entropy alloy developed a dendritic and lamellar mixed structure. As a result of second phase strengthening,grain-boundary strengthening and solid solution strengthening caused by Si atoms, the hardness of AlCrFeMoSix high entropy alloys increased from 394 HV to 549 HV.Besides, the potential difference among mixed structures brought about a serious galvanic corrosion on the alloy surface. Therefore, the corrosion current density of AlCrFeMoSix high entropy alloys increased from 1.71 × 10-8 to 5.54 × 10-8 A/cm2.
