Micelle Formation of Cationic Surfactants in Aqueous Solution Measured by Surface Tension, Conductivity and Fluorescence Measurements
Abstract:The detailed micellization behavior of cationic surfaetants 3-p-nonylphenoxy-2- hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium halide (NPTAX, X = Cl, Br, I) was studied by surface tension, conductivity and steady-state fluorescence measurements in the temperature range of 15 to 50 ℃. The critical micelle concentrations (cmc), thermodynamics of mieellization (△Gm), degree of counterion dissociation (a^0) at the eme and aggregation number (Nagg) were determined from experimental data. The effects of temperature and concentrations of surfactant on their various properties in aqueous solution have been investigated, respectively.
