Abstract:In order to determine a reasonable section coal pillar size in Nanliang Mine, the planar and spatial models in different section coal pillar sizes were designed and stability of the section coal pillar was studied on the basis of the simulation experiments. The simulation experiments with the planar model indicated that under the conditions of coal seam with 2 m mining height and 100 m burying depth, a 10 m-wide coal pillar can keep stable and a 12 m-wide coal pillar can basically keep stable while roof caving;the stability evaluation experiments of the coal pillar with quasi spatial model frame showed that when the working faces on the two sides of a 12 m-wide section coal pillar all caved, the stress of the coal pillar might exceed its strength, which would cause the coal pillar to lose stability. Based on a comprehensive analysis of the topography of Nanliang Mine and the stability of the coal pillars, the reasonable size of the section coal pillar should be 14 m, and compared with the original 20 m-wide pillar, its size reduced by 30%, which greatly improved the recovery rate of coal resources.
