Abstract:In this paper, a mathematical model containing faults was built according to the actual geologic condition of a mine and by using the numerical simulation software FLAC3D , and analysis was carried out on the plastic deformation failure of surrounding rocks under the combination conditions of both the fault protection coal pillars and working faces with different width. When the width of the coal pillar was 60 m, the plastic failure zone of the surrounding rock was increased with the increase of the width of the working face, the plastic failure of the roof rock strata near the fault became obvious, this was mainly caused by the broken surrounding rock and its low strength. On the basis of the research results, the rational width of the fault protection coal pillar was fixed as 60 m and that of the working face was fixed as 75 m, which thus provided a certain scientific basis for the safe mining of the coal seams around the faults.
