Abstract:Objective: To investigate the current status of knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of neonatal nurses in maintaining peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) and its influencing factors. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey among 282 neonatal nurses from 19 general hospitals and 4 specialized hospitals in Shaanxi Province from May to June 2023. A total of 245 valid questionnaires were collected, with an effective response rate of 86.88%. The survey tools included a self-designed general information form and a KAP questionnaire for neonatal nurses in PICC maintenance. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA and multiple linear regression analysis to analyze the scores of each dimension of KAP. Results: The scores for knowledge, attitude, and behavior in PICC maintenance were (58.94±8.69), (35.18±4.19), and (38.31±4.56), respectively. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the frequency of training (t=2.316, P=0.021) and title (t=2.680, P=0.008) were influencing factors of knowledge in PICC maintenance. The frequency of training (t=3.485, P=0.001) and whether the hospital or department regularly conducts inspections (t=5.155, P<0.001) were influencing factors of attitude in PICC maintenance. Whether the hospital or department regularly conducts inspections (t=8.943, P<0.001) and title (t=2.374, P=0.018) were influencing factors of behavior scores in PICC maintenance. Conclusion: The level of knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of neonatal nurses in PICC maintenance is at a moderate level. Managers should establish reasonable training and inspection plans to enhance the KAP level of neonatal nurses in PICC maintenance.
